Writing for Adult Learners
April 4, 2012, 1 pm – 4 pm at CREC Central, Council Room
This workshop features guiding principles to consider when teaching writing to adult learners. The focus will be on these principles and instructional strategies that encourage and enhance student writing for varied purposes.

Training and Certification/Recertification
The CASAS Functional Writing Assessment (FWA) is a performance-based, standardized assessment for accountability. This assessment must be scored by FWA Certified Local Scorers (CLS). CLSs must have attended an initial 9-hour FWA Training session and successfully completed the FWA certification packet. (Please note: There is a $60 fee for the FWA manual necessary for training and scoring.) They have participated in Inter-rater Reliability and in the yearly recertification process. Go to ATDN’s Professional Development Brochure for the training and recertification session dates.

ATDN Scoring Service
ATDN maintains a cadre of certified state scorers who will score paired writing samples from Adult Secondary, Adult Basic Education, and English as a Second Language Classes for submission to CARS database. Questions about the ATDN Scoring Service should be addressed to:
