CREC’s Division of Choice comprises both the Capitol Region Choice Program and the Office of Interdistrict Grants. The goal of all programs in this division is to reduce the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic isolation of students by initiating, developing and managing innovative educational programs.
The Capitol Region Choice Program is a part of the statewide Open Choice program that allows urban students to attend public schools in nearby suburban towns and suburban students to attend public schools in a nearby urban center. For more information, please visit the Choice Program section.
The Office of Interdistrict Grants writes proposals to fund programs that bring together students from different school districts to learn and work side-by-side. Diversity is key to the success of these programs. For more information on attending the programs currently funded – or to learn how to obtain funding for programs in your school district, please visit our Interdistrict Programs section.
Eliminating the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic isolation of students is also the goal of CREC’s Division of Magnet Schools. For more information on these and other efforts to ensure an equal education for all Connecticut students, please visit the Office of Educational Equity at the state Department of Education, online at www.state.ct.us/sde/equity.
