Choice Support Center

student support center

It is our pleasure to announce that CREC's CHOICE program is starting a student support center in October of 2007. The center will help districts support the academic success of students placed in their schools.

The center will accommodate 40-80 Choice and magnet middle and high school students (grades 6-12) who need support for academic or behavioral issues.

The center will be located at the Coltsville facility at 34 Sequassen Street and will be open four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Students will be bused to the center after school and directly home at the end of the day. The center will provide students with a daily snack.

We encourage school staff to start referring students that would benefit from support in math, literacy skills, or behavioral skills to the center. All middle/high school students who are repeating grades or failing should be referred to the center and will be given priority. This service is in addition to the support schools already provide.

We will continue to assess the resources we have allocated and continue to adjust and refine the program throughout the year. As always, your good ideas help us to improve our service to your districts and the students they serve.

School staff can contact us by email or complete the attached form and fax it to our office. Our fax number is 860-509-3653.

Become a Choice Liaison

Although many schools already have a person designated as a Choice liaison, we encourage each school in our district to designate a staff member to be a Choice liaison.  This person is someone who has a good rapport with the Choice students and is willing to meet with them on a regular basis to listen to their concerns, nurture their ideas, and share their feedback with us.  Many of the Choice students appreciate knowing that there is someone at the school who listens and understands them, and you could be that person.

Regular communication with the Choice liaisons will help us stay informed and meet the students' social needs more efficiently.
