Transportation Information

Transportation is coordinated by CREC and paid for by the state of Connecticut.  Bus travel of one hour or more each way may be required.  Pickups and drop-offs are at nearby schools.

With students attending 106 schools in 24 towns, transportation is a large part of the Capitol Region Choice Program. The Choice Program runs more than 80 bus routes, in addition to having more than 100 students who use public transit.

Students in middle school or high school who attend schools on public transit bus routes use Connecticut Transit buses to get to school. The Choice Program provides students with fare cards for use in getting back and forth to school. By using public transit, these students have more flexibility to participate in after school programs. The fare cards are distributed every 12 weeks at CREC’s main office at 111 Charter Oak Avenue in Hartford. Students or parents may pick up fare cards at designated times.

Students who are in elementary school or who do not attend a school on a public transit bus route are brought to and from school on contracted yellow school buses. Students in middle and high schools who ride school buses are also provided with a regularly scheduled late bus so they may participate in after school activities.

The safe conduct of our students to and from school is a primary concern of the Choice Program. As such it is very important that parent reinforce the Bus Rules established by the Choice Program and instruct their children on appropriate bus behavior.
