Sarah J. Barzee, Ph.D., of Middletown is assistant executive director for the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC).
Dr. Barzee holds a doctorate degree in philosophy from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan; a sixth year certificate from the University of Hartford; and a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in special education from Saint Joseph College.
Dr. Barzee is responsible for the management and implementation of CREC's services to school districts, other agencies, and CREC programs. She serves as a liaison between CREC and local school districts, governmental agencies, colleges, universities, businesses, and other external organizations. She provides overall direction and coordination of CREC's educational programs and services, and participates in the growth of existing programs and development of new programs through long-range and strategic planning and direction setting.
Before joining CREC, Dr. Barzee was employed, for over seven years, by the State Education Resource Center (SERC). She served as its associate director. Previously, she served SERC as an assistant director for Program Development and Consultant. Prior to her tenure at SERC, Dr. Barzee held the positions of principal, adjunct professor, and teacher for both regular and special education students. She has experience working in school districts with LEARN, another Regional Educational Service Center.
