With more than 20 years of experience as an educator, Colleen A. Palmer, Ph.D. joined the Capitol Region Education Council as deputy executive director in 2004. Previously, she served as the principal for Simsbury High School, Hamden High School and Nonnewaug High School (Woodbury, Conn.). She began her career as a math teacher at the Colorado School for the Deaf.
Dr. Palmer has presented at international conferences, authored several articles and currently serves on the Yale University Arts and Sciences Human Subjects Committee, an institutional review board for research conducted at Yale. She is a member and has held leadership positions in numerous professional educational organizations and oversees the divisions of Technical Assistance and Brokering Services (TABS), Community Education (CE), The Institute for Teaching and Learning, and Technology Services, as well as the Choice Program and Transportation Services.
Dr. Palmer holds a doctorate degree in educational administration from the University of Connecticut. In addition, she has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree in K-12 school counseling and a sixth-year degree in administration and supervision, both from Southern Connecticut State University. She also completed an executive leadership program in superintendency preparation at the University of Connecticut.
