Hartford Magnet Middle School
Receives Federal ‘Blue Ribbon’ Nomination
-Third Hartford Public School to be Honored-
(December 21, 2005) – Hartford Magnet Middle School Principal Cecilia Green
recently was notified that her school has been nominated to become a federal
“Blue Ribbon School.” If school officials complete the rigorous application
process successfully, Hartford Magnet Middle will become the third Hartford
Public School to receive the prestigious “Blue Ribbon” designation.
Green received word of the nomination in a letter dated November 29 from the
U.S. Department of Education. The letter said, “This prestigious award was
established to honor elementary and secondary schools that make significant
progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at the
highest levels. Your school has been nominated as one of those schools.”
Last year, Dwight Elementary School was one of only three schools in
Connecticut to be recognized. Simpson-Waverly Elementary School was the first Hartford school to achieve Blue Ribbon status in 2003.
