Advanced Alternate Route to Certification for Intermediate Administrators

Responding to an urgent need for highly effective leaders to serve high-need schools, CREC AARC for Intermediate Administrators provides coursework and residency experience necessary for the Connecticut 092 Certification.

AARC completers commit to serving a minimum of three years as Department Chairs, Assistant Principals and Principals in one of Connecticut’s six high-needs districts. Completers will also receive induction support through the New Leaders Network. AARC candidates pursue a 14-month, job-embedded program. In addition to certification, candidates may elect to pursue a masters degree at Central Connecticut State University or a cross-certification in Special Education through CREC’s existing AARC.

Teacher Leader Institute Beginning in 2014

Master teachers who wish to serve in school or district-based leadership roles, such as coaches or team leaders will be required to hold certification as a Teacher Leader. CREC’s Teacher Leader Institute (TLI) will provide the necessary coursework and practicum experience to meet this requirement. The 14 month program is built on Model Teacher Leader Standards developed by the Teacher Leader Exploratory Consortium.

A unique feature of the CREC TLI is the option to pursue cross-endorsement in Special Education through CREC’s existing Advanced Alternate Route to Certification for Special Education. This option, which is driven Connecticut’s commitment to the Response to Intervention model of Special Education qualification, offers aspiring teacher leaders the opportunity to develop deeper understanding of students with special needs as part of school-wide efforts to serve all students effectively.
