Laurie Gonzalez

Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Pupil Services

Laurie Gonzalez serves as CREC's Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Pupil Services. Laurie has 25 years of experience in education in both school-based and central office positions.

Laurie’s career began in the fall of 1990 as a middle school special education teacher for students with emotional and behavioral problems in Hartford, and she remained with Hartford Public Schools for 16 years. Her experience includes bilingual special education; alternative education; math; building-based administration; and central office administration. Additionally, her experience includes four years with Meriden Public Schools as a special education supervisor and four years as the Director of Special Education in East Hampton Public Schools.

Laurie holds a bachelor’s degree in education, a master's degree in special education, and an administrative certification from the University of Hartford. She received her juris doctorate, superintendent certification, master's degree in curriculum instruction, and her certification in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) education from UConn.
