Introduction

If you're interested in giving your child an extraordinary education, consider one of our award-winning magnet schools. CREC magnet schools allow students to focus on specific talents or interests while studying a challenging core curriculum in a diverse environment.

Due to recently passed legislation called Parent Choice, parents can now submit an application for their child to enroll in an interdistrict magnet school that does not already serve their town. If there is a vacant seat available and your child is accepted, there is no cost to you.

Quality & Diversity
The Capitol Region Education Council’s vision is that every student can and shall learn at high levels and, therefore, must have access to all educational resources in the region through the system of public schools served by CREC. In addition to programs in member public school districts, CREC manages eight interdistrict magnet schools. CREC’s Division of Magnet Schools offers high-quality educational opportunities that reduce racial, ethnic and socio-economic isolation of students by initiating, developing and managing innovative educational programs.

Why Magnet Schools?
Magnet schools are public schools of choice, so named because they “attract” students to their particular focus or theme. Magnet schools give parents and guardians the opportunity to choose quality programs for their children from throughout the Capitol Region. Magnet schools allow students to focus on specific talents or interests while studying a challenging core curriculum of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and languages in a diverse environment.
