About CCY

The Center for Creative Youth (CCY), a program of the Capitol Region Education Council, will hold its 32nd annual summer residency in 2008 offering talented high school students five weeks of intensive study on the lovely typical New England campus of Wesleyan University, one of the country’s most distinguished liberal arts colleges. Classes meet daily in 10 art disciplines. Morning classes allow students to major in one chosen art form. Classes in interdisciplinary arts subjects complement the morning program.

CCY enrolls approximately 170 young artists from Connecticut, across the U.S., and outside the country. These students reflect a diverse ethnic, economic, and cultural society. This provides an environment for students to develop a better understanding of each other, as well as greater knowledge of and appreciation for the arts.

In each of the art disciplines, students gain practical experience in an advanced, progressive curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, interdisciplinary and multicultural learning, leadership skills, and historical context. A staff of professional artist/teachers and residential advisors mentor students in their studies, as well as in the social aspects of the program. Students leave CCY with a better perspective on career and higher education choices.
