Application/Admission FAQ

Q: Are admissions competitive?

A: As each art form can accommodate only a certain number of students each summer, the total number of applicants within that art form initially determines the level of competitiveness. The ratio of applicants to openings fluctuates somewhat annually, and with it the acceptance rates. The talent level of the applicant group also fluctuates slightly each year, raising or lowering the competitiveness level. CCY seriously considers maturity and artistic commitment in addition to talent level when making acceptance decisions. CCY accepts more students than it does not accept. The acceptance rate in 2006 was approximately 85%.

Q: What is the application deadline, what do we do if we’ve missed it?

A: The application deadline for the 2008 summer program is March 3nd. If you’ve missed it, please email the office at ccy@crec.org to confirm space availability. If space is available, in your art form we may consider accepting a late application.

Q: After we apply, when will we be contacted regarding an audition?

A: Applicants who submit their application materials in full prior to the March 3rd deadline will be mailed audition information as soon as possible once all application materials have been received. Applications received after the deadline will be notified depending on space and openings in each art form as soon as possible as to audition availability.

Q: Will application materials be accepted if any pieces are still missing?

A: Generally speaking, we only consider applications submitted with all required pieces. The exception to this rule is recommendation letters being sent separately, as this is generally beyond the applicant’s control. Otherwise, applications will only be evaluated once all pieces are submitted. Please do NOT send the application materials to CCY in pieces unless you have contacted the CCY office and received permission to do so. CCY processes over 300 applications each year and collating loose pieces becomes burdensome for the office staff and increases the risk of misplaced materials.

Q: Can application materials be faxed or emailed?

A: Although we don’t encourage it, application materials can be faxed as long as any non-faxable items (such as pictures, samples of work, etc.) are mailed at the same time. Please contact the CCY office before faxing to confirm receipt date of remaining materials. We prefer you to fax materials only when up against a deadline as collating all of your application materials delays the acceptance process. We do not accept emailed application materials.

Note: Please do not fax AND mail the same materials. All materials should be submitted ONE TIME only.
