Q: How do I apply for employment at the Center for Creative Youth?
A: First, you need to determine which type of position you are applying for. CCY employs both Residential Advisors and professional Artist/Instructors. A Residential Advisor lives on campus in the residence halls for the duration of the program and is responsible for supervising students. They also serve as Teaching Assistants to the Center’s instructors. This is a round-the-clock position, with limited free time. Instructors are responsible for teaching classes, do not live on campus, and work five days per week.
Q: I think I would like to be a Residential Advisor. What are the qualifications needed and how do I apply?
A: 95% of Residential Advisors have attended the Center for Creative Youth as a student, and have typically completed two years of college. Having attended the program as a student is an important factor, as it will provide a full understanding of the day-to-day activities, schedule, commitment, and philosophy of the Center for Creative Youth. Applicants who fit the above-mentioned criteria should download, complete and mail the Residential Advisor Application to the CCY office by February 15st. Once the application is received you will be contacted regarding an interview with the Residential Director and/or Director. Most final decisions are made by April 15th.
Q: Can I still apply for a position as a Residential Advisor if I did not attend the program as a student?
A: Yes, occasionally a Residential Advisor applicant who did not attend the program as a student will be considered and hired. This is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Under these circumstances, the applicant would most definitely need to have a background in the arts and in teaching, and would need to provide a letter of interest, resumé, and two references in addition to downloading, completing, and submitting the RA application. Experience in a residential setting preferred. You will then be contacted by the office staff to schedule an interview if a position is available.
Q: I would like to apply for a position as an instructor at the Center of Creative Youth. What are the necessary qualifications and how do I apply?
A: The Center has an Artist/Instructor staff of approximately 35, and many, of these talented people return year after year. While openings are limited, each year we welcome a few new devoted professionals. Interested applicants may submit a letter of interest and resumé, indicating your experiences both as an artist and teacher (high school-level teaching experience a plus).
