PRESCHOOL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Location/Site: Currently the site is under the final phase of renovation. We have ordered the best furniture and materials for young children, which will provide a wonderful environment for our youngest learners!

Directions: Interstate 91 North to Exit 37. Left off the exit, left at second traffic light/oval sign post "Targeting Centre". The school is located at 10 Univac Lane @10 Targeting Center Bloomfield Avenue Windsor, CT 06095

Classrooms: Each classroom is staffed with a highly qualified CT Certified Teacher and Early Childhood Assistant Teacher. All classrooms are well supplied and have child-size bathrooms in the classroom space.

Ratio: 1 adult for every 9 children
Class Size: 18 children
Hours: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 5 days per week
School Calendar: Preschool follows the school calendar posted on the web site

Before and After Care: Before Care- 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m., After Care- 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Fee-based before and after care programming is available, fee will be posted soon.

Transportation: Provided to Hartford residents for the regular school day. Extended day transportation is the responsibility of all parents. Questions may be directed to the Transportation Department at 860-524-4077.

Forms: Student enrollment checklist:

  • School Application/Registration Form, birth certificate, proof of residency
  • Meal Application/ Free and Reduced Lunch forms - food service application is for breakfast, lunch and after care snack
  • Emergency Contact Form (3 copies color coded)
  • Medical Form - ED191 (yellow) up to date well child exam and immunizations
  • CT Health Immunization Form
  • CT Authorization for the administration of medicine by school personnel
  • Signed photo release
  • Dominant Language Survey

Curricular Programming:

  • Literacy and Oral Language Development - Opening the World of Language (OWL) parent flyer included
  • Math Development - Everyday Math preschool program from the University of Chicago
  • Lab School Supervision - During these innovative lab visitations, the preschool staff remains in the classroom to support both older students' interactions with the preschoolers as well as child interactions.
  • In addition to the magnet school curricular programming, the children are provided with the following aligned to CT preschool standards: learning centers, gross motor development, music and movement, free choice centers, story time and interactive read aloud, phonological awareness and alphabetic knowledge development, and a rest time.
  • Parent Conferences - are scheduled three times per year
  • Preschool Progress Reports - 3 times annually
