ATTENTION MLC PARENTS AND STUDENTS
IMPORTANT TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Now that the winter season is here, we can expect to have school closings, delayed openings and early dismissals. Please note the following will clarify information taken directly from your MLC Student and Parent Handbook.

Closing of School for Inclement Weather
Since the Metropolitan Learning Center is located in Bloomfield, we follow Bloomfield’s call and decision. Always look and listen for Metropolitan Learning Center Magnet School on the television and radio stations.

The policy for the closing of school due to inclement weather is as follows:

If Bloomfield Public Schools close, then MLC automatically will be closed.  You may not hear MLC mentioned by name but should assume that we will be closed when Bloomfield is closed.

If Bloomfield delays the opening of school for 90 minutes, but your town does not, transportation to your district will be delayed 90 minutes.

If you transport your son/daughter to MLC, we will have adults present to provide supervision at the usual time.

If your town’s public schools have a delayed opening but Bloomfield does not, you have two options:

• You may wait for transportation, which will be provided on a delayed schedule (usually 90 minutes).
• You may transport your child to MLC.

If MLC is in session and your participating district is not, due to weather, it is the parents responsibility to provide transportation to MLC.

Announcements for closings, late openings, and early dismissals will be made on: WTIC-AM 1080, WPOP-AM 1410, Channel 3 WFSB_TV and Channel 30 WVIT-TV, and will also be available on our phone message.

The bus routes during inclement weather will remain the same. The time the bus will pick up your child will be later than their original pick up time.

To figure out what time the bus will pick up your child simply add the length of the delay (usually given in minutes) to the time your child usually gets picked up by the bus.

For example, a child who gets picked up at 7:05 would be picked up at 8:35 on a 90 minute delay.

Early dismissals from school are made on a case by case basis and the students will be dismissed at 12:00pm in the afternoon.  This information will be posted as well.

Please understand that when the weather is bad, the buses may be behind schedule.  Please make sure you plan for the weather and you and your children get an early start as well as wait at least 15 minutes passed their pick up time to ensure they do not miss the bus.

There is no perfect solution to transporting students in bad weather.  Busus run slower to be safe, roads are blocked due to accidents; students must wait in miserable weather etc. A lot of patience, understanding and cooperation are needed by everyone to make a good situation out of a challenging situation.
