Glastonbury-East Hartford to Hold Annual Lunar New Year Celebration

Summary:

Glastonbury-East Hartford Magnet School will hold its annual Lunar New Year Celebration, Guo Xin Nian, on January 23.

The event, which is open to the public, is the school’s way of celebrating the Spring Festival, an important festival for the Chinese. While the event will focus on teaching Chinese language and culture, attendees will also learn about other eastern Asian cultures, such as the Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese cultures.

Throughout the year, students at Glastonbury-East Hartford Magnet School study Mandarin-Chinese. The school, which is operated by CREC, serves students in preschool through grade five, and they explore science, global studies, and technology through hands-on immersion experiences.

The January 23 event will feature an international potluck, planetarium shows, Chinese dance and Taekwondo lessons, and other cultural games and activities. There will also be a photo booth, and families will make their own food, including rice balls, dumplings, and Vietnamese spring rolls. The Glastonbury-East Hartford Magnet School winter concert, and other demonstrations, will take place from 3 p.m. from 4 p.m.

During the event, food will be sold by the plate. The cost will be $3 for children, $5 for adults, $10 for a family of four, and $15 for a family of five.
