Two Rivers' Robotics Team Heading to Regional and National Championships

(East Hartford, CT) CREC Two Rivers Magnet High School’s new VEX robotics team is preparing to compete in both regional and national competitions.

The Southern New England Skyrise Championship, a regional competition, will take place March 7 and March 8 in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the U.S. Open Robotics Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa, will be held April 7 through April 9.

Members of the VEX robotics team, a team comprised of 29 students who meet regularly after school, have worked hard on their robot since the start of the school year, using various materials to build it themselves. They measured and cut aluminum and steel; wired motors together to the main controller; and built gear-driven lifts, risers, and claws.

While always working to improve its robot, the CREC Two Rivers’ team competed in several local VEX robotics competitions. Its success in those competitions allowed the team to qualify for the upcoming regional and national championships.

The team’s accomplishments are remarkable given that this is the first year that CREC Two Rivers Magnet High School has offered the extracurricular activity. Most students have never worked on a robotics project before.

“I work with some of the most talented and hard-working students that I have ever had the pleasure to coach,” said Robert Polselli, coach of the robotics team. “For us to compete at such an impress level, especially as we are all learning the game and the rules for the first time, is a testament to every single one of our 29 students who play a significant role in the process.”
