Broadway Star to Teach Master Class to CREC Musical Theater Students
(Hartford, Conn.) Mandy Gonzalez, a star of Broadway’s hit musical Hamilton, will teach a master class to musical theater students from New Britain High School, CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts High School, and Central Connecticut State University at New Britain High School, 110 Mill Street, on April 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. They will be treated to the opportunity to personally work with Gonzalez and professional dance and acting coaches. The “Broadway on Mill Street” event is sponsored by the Central Connecticut State University/Ana Grace Project Collaborative and the Consolidated School District of New Britain.
Gonzalez is a world-renowned artist and a Drama Desk and OBIE Award-winning actor. She joined the Broadway cast of Hamilton in September 2016 when she succeeded Tony-winner Renée Elise Goldsberry in the role of Angelica Schuyler.
Gonzalez also starred as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked. She has performed with symphonies across the country and around the world, and released a solo CD last year. She has also appeared on the television shows Madam Secretary and Quantic.
Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. It won 11 2016 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Score, Book of a Musical, Direction of a Musical, Choreography, and Orchestrations.
The Ana Grace Project was founded in memory Ana Grace Márquez-Greene in response to the Sandy Hook, Connecticut school shooting that took her life on Dec. 14, 2012. It is dedicated to promoting love, community, and connection for every child and family through three lead initiatives: partner schools, professional development, and music and arts.
