CREC Aerospace and Engineering Elementary Partners with Parents to Improve Literacy Skills

(Rocky Hill, CT) In an effort to partner with families to support literacy development, several staff members at the CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Elementary School recently hosted an evening with parents in which they discussed the many different ways they teach reading in the classroom.

The event took place after school on May 7 at CREC Central in Hartford. The goal was to allow parents to meet with teachers who specialize in literacy intervention and to learn about how reading is taught during the school day.
During the event, teachers demonstrated exercises that are used to help students increase their reading skills, and they shared several research-based interventions that parents can use at home to help their children accelerate their learning and complete school work.

“The interventions shared gave me a better understand about what staff members are doing to help my son get better at his reading,” said one parent who attended the event. “I really appreciated the invitation. I got some awesome ideas on how I can help my son at home.”

Because of the positive feedback from parents, the CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Elementary School is already planning a similar event to be held next fall.
