CREC Leaders to Participate in Thursday Scavenger Hunt in Hartford

Summary:

CREC’s 55 agency leaders, including the principals of CREC’s 19 magnet schools, will participate in a two-day leadership retreat this week. The retreat includes a scavenger hunt in Hartford on July 9.

The activity will begin and end at the Pump House Gallery in Bushnell Park.

The scavenger hunt is designed to help CREC leaders learn more about and feel more connected to the city in which they work. Hartford is home to many of CREC’s students and clients.

During the scavenger hunt, which was created by a student from CREC’s Leadership Academy, participants will divide into teams and be asked to find 34 Hartford landmarks, including Butler McCook House and Garden, the green clock bridge at Talcott Street, and Hartford Stage. Pictures will be taken at all locations, and bonus points will be earned if trivia questions are answered correctly.

The scavenger hunt will be the pilot for an activity that the school district plans to incorporate into its social studies curriculum.

In preparation for the scavenger hunt, CREC’s leadership team will participate in a session with Hartford historian Wilson (Bill) Faude, where they will:

Learn about the history of the development of various Hartford neighborhoodsLearn how different communities developed, including the economic and social conditions that led people of different nationalities to migrate to HartfordLearn about the city’s current challenges and opportunities Learn interesting historical facts or stories that are relevant to CREC’s work

July 9’s scavenger hunt is only for participants in the CREC Leadership Retreat, but media are invited to attend. Please contact Amanda Falcone at 860-509-3663 to make arrangements.
