CREC Schools to Participate in Million Father March

Summary:

Several CREC magnet schools, including CREC’s Museum Academy, will participate in The Black Star Project’s Million Father March on September 2—the first day of school.

Since the Million Father March began in 2004, fathers and other significant male caregivers have been asked to take their children to school on the first day of a new academic year. The march symbolizes the beginning of a year-long commitment of men to their children’s educational success.

It is proven that when both parents are involved in school life, children tend to do better both academically and socially, and CREC is committed to improving the quality of public education and leadership in Greater Hartford.

Like other CREC schools, CREC Museum Academy is asking male caregivers to bring their children to school on September 2. The school will hold continental breakfasts at both of its locations, and guest speakers will talk about the importance of male role models in education. In addition, CREC leaders will be at the school to talk about the importance of education and family engagement.

CREC Museum Academy’s preschool and kindergarten students are located at 206 West Newberry Road in Bloomfield, and students in first through fifth grade attend school at 10 Targeting Centre in Windsor.

For male role models who cannot attend CREC Museum Academy’s event, the school is encouraging them to take “selfies” with their children as they put them on the bus, or drop them off at school.

Media is welcome to cover the CREC Museum Academy’s back-to-school festivities on September 2. Please contact Amanda Falcone at 860-509-3663 to make arrangements.
