CREC Public Safety Academy Student-Athletes Hold Sports Clinics for Elementary School Students

(Enfield, CT) During the month of October, CREC Public Safety Academy student-athletes held sports clinics at an elementary school in South Windsor.

Students enrolled in the CREC International Magnet School for Global Citizenship’s afterschool program participated in the clinics, which included soccer clinics led by members of the CREC Public Safety Academy’s boys and girls soccer teams. The CREC Public Safety Academy cross country team also led a clinic.

During these clinics, the student-athletes taught the elementary school students skill development and technique. They also spoke about the importance of being good citizens.

This is the second year of this mentoring program. This winter, members of the CREC Public Safety Academy basketball teams also plan to visit the elementary school.

Participating in the sports program is just one of the benefits to being a student at the CREC Public Safety Academy. The academy is an interdistrict magnet school that prepares students for both college and the workforce by teaching students about leadership and careers in public service, in addition to traditional academic subjects.

To attend CREC’s Public Safety Academy or CREC’s International Magnet School for Global Citizenship, students must apply to the school through the Greater Hartford Regional School Choice Office lottery, which is open now through January 29, 2016.
