(Enfield, CT) – On Wednesday, March 14th, students from the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC)’s Public Safety Academy participated in A Day on the Hill. The annual event is hosted by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE), and is an opportunity for school board members, their superintendents, PTA and PTO members, students and guests, to receive a legislative briefing on the impact of pending legislation on their district. The event was very timely for the students, many of whom have heard a lot about this year’s proposed education legislation and are eager to get involved.
“Our teacher chaperones could not express how proud they were of our students and the way they represented PSA with pride” explained Ryan Donlon, PSA’s principal.
The students participated in a number of activities, including speeches by the Governor and by Andy Fleischmann, Chairman of the Education Committee, discussion about the proposed education bills, observing a meeting of the Education Committee, and taking pictures with Governor Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Wyman. Participants also had opportunities to visit their legislators and lobby on education issues. Different portions of the event took place at the Bushnell, the State Capitol and in the Legislative Office Building.
