Students at CREC's Metropolitan Learning Center Test Their Knowledge in The Hunger Games Book Brawl

Bloomfield, CT - The Capitol Region Education Council (CREC)'s Metropolitan Learning Center hosted their first ever Book Brawl on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. The Book Brawl is an interactive activity created by Christina Hill, a librarian from the Young Adult section at the Prosser Public Library in Bloomfield. Wednesday's brawl challenged students' knowledge of the popular book series The Hunger Games.

Similar to the plot of the much-anticipated Hunger Games movie, students were separated into 12 "districts" where they competed against each other by answering questions and puzzles relating to information from the story. Students used Smart Board technology to respond to the questions, and art pieces created by fans of the series served as backdrops for the event.

Lionsgate, the production company of The Hunger Games movie, donated posters and lanyards for each student participating in the brawl. Each winner of the competition received a copy of the "Hunger Games Tribute Guide."

The school hopes to participate in additional "Brawls" in the future. "The students seemed to really enjoy it," explained Suzanne Artis, MLC's School Library Media Specialist.

The Hunger Games is based on the Nutmeg Award winning book by Suzanne Collins. The movie is due out in theaters on Friday, March 23rd.
