Professional Learning Tracking
CREC Magnet Schools encourages all its employees to continually seek out opportunities for professional learning. Please select the appropriate Tracking Form below.
New Teacher Extra Hours Form
CREC teachers in their first year with the agency are required to attend Teachers Academy and to complete five additional hours of professional learning outside of the work day. In addition, teachers in their second and third year at CREC who were hired with less than five years of experience are required to attend Teachers Academy and to complete five additional hours annually of professional learning outside of the work day.
The CREC Teachers Professional Learning Tracking Form below is the means by which CREC teachers can document their professional learning hours. Once you complete the form, you will receive an email receipt which you should save for your records.
Administrators or Central Office Staff
In order to track professional learning and create a database of shared resources, the approval process for external Professional Learning has been further developed to include online forms and a required feedback process.
Before an administrator or central office staff member is able to attend a conference or workshop, a form for approval will be submitted through the online database. Approval notifications will be emailed within a week of submission.
After attending the event, an online evaluation must be submitted. In addition to evaluating the usefulness of the session, the form allows attendees to upload any resources they receive at the event. Providing feedback on professional learning experiences will encourage knowledge sharing and guide future investments in out of district events. All evaluations and resources can be freely viewed as well.
Continuation of the Professional Educator Certificate
As of July 1, 2012, continuing education units (CEUs) are not required for applicants requesting continuation of the professional educator certificate. Section 36 of Public Act 12-116 eliminates the requirement for professional educator certificate holders to complete 9.0 CEUs (90 contact hours) during the five-year period for which the professional educator certificate was issued. Anyone applying on and after July 1, 2012, for a continuation of the professional educator certificate will no longer be required to provide verification of completion of CEUs. Form ED 179 Application for Continuation of Professional Educator Certificate has been revised to reflect this change.
A complete overview of PD requirements can be found here.
Please note, Form ED 126 Statement of Professional Experience should be submitted directly to Denise Holter in Human Resources for superintendent attestation.
All questions about professional learning hours should be directed to Coordinator of Talent Development and Research, Laura Lyon.
