Our Mission
The School for Young Children
on Asylum Hill is a socially and
economically integrated school serving
urban and suburban children from birth
through age 5. The family-centered School
provides full-day, full-year programming and
seamlessly integrates its state-of-the-art early
childhood educational program, designed
specifically to meet the needs of young
children and provide support resources for
parents.
Our Goals
To serve families and children who reflect
the cultural, racial, linguistic and socioeconomic
diversity of our community
- To respond
to a rising
demand for
quality early
care and
education in
Connecticut
- To enroll
children who have a broad range of learning
abilities, needs and styles, and to meet these
needs in a seamless, integrated manner that
reflects best practices in early childhood
education
- To strengthen
the Asylum Hill
neighborhood
by enhancing
the educational
opportunities and
services available
to the children
and families living
there
Our Vision
The School for Young Children on Asylum
Hill is a model for socio-economically
integrated education and for effective
approaches to closing the “achievement gap.”
- The School for Young Children on Asylum
Hill is a center where teachers model the
best practices of early childhood education
and internalize the importance and power
of a positive and strong relationship with
each child and family.
- The School is used as a learning laboratory
for an active education research program
that offers professional development
resources for future teachers and
enrichment resources for practicing
teachers in the Capitol Region.
