Kenneth O’Konis has been a public school science teacher in CT for the past twenty years. He began his career teaching a variety of courses at East Windsor High School where he also was the Boys Varsity Soccer Coach and Faculty Manager of the Tri-Town Hockey Team. His career led him to South Windsor High School in 1999 where he currently teaches Chemistry. He helped create an award-winning Forensic Science program at South Windsor which was featured in Family PC and Teacher magazines. In 2000, he was named the Radio Shack National Science Teacher of the Year. He is an author of CAPT Science, a self-study guide published in 2005. Kenneth is a strong proponent of constructivism in the science curriculum which is very evident in his classroom. As an adjunct instructor, Kenneth has also worked concurrently for Enfield Adult Education and for Asnuntuck Community College. Upon the inception of the Outreach Program at the Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science in 2000, Kenneth became one of the initial science instructors for the Saturday Explorations and Frontiers program. Today, Kenneth is very excited to be named the GHAMAS’s Program Director and a Science Specialist for the Institute of Teaching & Learning.
