River Street School and its programs serve more than two hundred students aged 3 - 21 with a variety of behavioral, communicative, and neurological disorders including autism spectrum disorders, pervasive developmental disorder, seizure disorders, identified genetic syndromes such as Fragile X, metabolic disorders, and those students with dual diagnoses. These students receive services in a variety of locations including the River Street School campus in Windsor, CT; in satellite classrooms under the direction of our Integrated Program Model; in public school classrooms; at our Coltsville programs, and in the students' homes.
River Street School offers a range of educational experiences from self-contained classes at our campus in Windsor, designed specifically for children with special needs, to supervised work programs in the community.
The River Street School Extended Day Program is a continuation of our school program with clinical support for students needing additional hours for skill acquisition.
The River Street Outreach Program provides services to school districts on a consultative basis for support of students with behavioral, social and communication disorders. Outreach services take place using a variety of models – home-based programs, model ABA classrooms in a variety of public schools, and consultation in public school classrooms.
The Program for the Assessment of Special Children (PASC) is a center for the review or evaluation of children where there are questions of unusual development. Dr. Mark Greenstein conducts evaluations to provide, supplement or clarify information for families, medical care providers and/or school districts.
The Neurobehavioral Consultation Services program reviews current therapies and/or interventions and recommends appropriate behavioral and pharmacologic management for each child. The program is directed by Michelle Kleiman, M. D., who is a board-certified physician in family and pediatrics, as well as psychiatry and neurology, with primary specialization in child neurology.
The River Street School Group Homes serve adolescents aged 8 to 21 with a diagnosis of Mental Retardation, PDD and Autism. Within the home, activities for daily living, independent living skills, social skills and self-preservation skills are addressed.
The River Street Autism Program at Coltsville provides quality early intervention services for young children with autism and their families. The program provides intensive, year round services for children ages two to eight. One-to-one instruction is provided with a curriculum that follows a developmental progression using discrete trial teaching with a strong emphasis on the generalization of skills.
The River Street Early Learning Center is designed to serve students ages 3-5. The Early Learning Center follows the Connecticut Benchmarks for Preschools, a framework designed to ensure that children obtain skills that they should be demonstrating upon entering kindergarten.
The Integrated Program Models is a regional program for students with disabilities aged 2.8 to 21. Primary and intermediate classrooms are located in classrooms throughout north-central Connecticut. Children's Therapy Specialists (CTS) is a clinic that provides a full range of outpatient, comprehensive therapy services. Sensory Integration is our primary focus although we provide evaluation, treatment and consultation tailored to the individual needs of the children.
RSS Vocational Outreach
This new vocational service has been
designed to support students who are transitioning from school to work,
adults who are striving to gain employment, and also to enhance
employment experiences of seasoned workers.
