School Improvement Leadership Academy
In partnership with Leadership for Learning Alliance

Overview
Designed to provide direct support for school system leadership teams committed to building and sustaining a comprehensive system for continuous improvement, this academy will focus on the work system leaders can and must do to close the achievement gap through data-driven decision making and maximizing use of research-based practices for high-performing systems.

Developing a Comprehensive Knowledge Management System: Transforming Data and Information About Your School or System into Knowledge to Inform Decision Making

Good-to-great schools and school systems begin their journey by confronting the brutal facts and taking an in depth look at the current levels of performance of each of the defining elements of their school or system. This session focuses on the key steps required to develop a comprehensive analysis of current conditions within your school or system, including the identification of strengths, areas for growth, and emerging issues that deserve your attention. An emphasis will be placed on strategies for maximizing the effective use of what you know about your schools and school system through the development of a comprehensive knowledge management system.

Defining the Difference You Want to Make and Advancing Your Leadership for Student Learning

Practical strategies will be featured for putting research-based best practices and data-driven decision making to work to advance the agenda for improving student learning in your school or school system. An emphasis will be placed on customizing the design of your leadership agenda and plan are aligned with your priority goals and tailored to the specific situation of your school or school system.

Providing Leadership for Change and Continuous Improvement

Key leadership principles for building a culture of learning and continuous improvement will be presented in this session. Practical suggestions will be offered on the effective use of strategies for building momentum and sustaining a culture of discipline to stay the course to achieve your priority goals. In addition, an emphasis will be placed on clarifying the roles and relationships of the central office, school board, teachers, staff, principals, goals. Presenter

Dr. Kathleen Fitzpatrick is the founding director of the Leadership for Learning Alliance. Over the past ten years she has served as the Executive Director of the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE). The NSSE serves as the research and development arm of the regional school accreditation commissions across the country. Her career experience includes serving as a classroom teacher in the fields of mathematics and music, leadership roles at the school and district level, including serving as Associate Superintendent for Instruction in a large suburban district in the Chicago area, university professor in the educational administration graduate programs at the University of Oregon and National Louis University, and researcher and principal investigator with the U. S. Department of Education's Center for Educational Policy and Management and the Laboratory for Student Success. Kathleen has served as a national consultant over the past twenty years at the invitation of state departments of education and local school districts across the country, as well as with American Association of School Administrators and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
