Inclement Weather

The winter weather is officially upon us! The inclement weather procedure for the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) transportation is different from most school districts. It is important that all families understand the procedure outlined below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the decision made for delays or closings?

All districts in which the school resides make the decision to have a delay, early dismissal or closing.

What happens when the number of school days lost due to inclement weather exceeds the number of days planned in the school year calendar?

Per the district in which the school resides, policies for any make up days is determined by the school district.

Where can I find inclement weather announcements?

Inclement weather announcements for early dismissals are available on many local news media outlets.
Many districts also offer their own alert notification to your designated contact preference if you choose to sign up.

Who will contact parents with school closing information?

All parents and/or guardians should check local media outlets for posting and many school districts they attend will send notice via school messenger calls, email and/or text alerts.

Who will contact parents with school delay information?

All parents and/or guardians should check local media outlets for posting and by the school district they attend will send notice via school messenger calls, email and/or text alerts.

Who will contact parents when there is early dismissal?

All parents and/or guardians should check the local media outlets for postings and the school district in which their student attends may offer a school messenger, calls or text alerts, please check with your students school for availability.

If my home town announces no school, but my child's school is open, will my child be picked up?

No, bus service will not occur within the district that has announced they are closed.

If the school is open, but my district is closed, can my child still go to school?

Yes if the parent/guardian transports their child to school and from school.

Is my child going to be excused from school due to delays?

If student chooses not to attend because of the delay, then the decision is determined by the school.

Can I keep my child home even if schools are open? Will this be an excused absence?

The decision to keep a child home for inclement weather reasons when the school is open if the parent/guardian decision. Any excused absence is determined by the school policy.

How do I find out if a particular event is cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather?

All school functions, events after-school and/or athletics will cancel during an inclement weather early dismissals and/or closings.

When there are school delays, my child's bus has bus stops at other towns besides the town we reside in, how do I figure out the pickup time?

Scheduled pick up times will be adjusted based on the delay as posted by the district the school resides in.
If there is more than one district the bus services, it will be based on the district that has the latest delay.

In the case of a delayed opening, is the school day extended?

No, when delays occur, regular dismissal times will be followed.

How do I know at what time my child is going to be picked up for early dismissal?

All schools early dismissal times due to inclement weather are determined as posted on the local media outlets by the district in which the schools resides or when a specific school may have a separate media posting.

When my child's school has early dismissals, my child's bus has stops at other towns besides the town we reside in, how do I figure the drop off time?

Drop off times for early dismissals occur in the same order as regularly scheduled routes.
As an example; If the normal bus ride is 30 minutes, then the drop off time would be 30 minutes after the early dismissal occurs.

How can I make sure that I receive messages from the school?

Parents/Guardians should check with the school on how to register to receive this information.
