Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), working with and for its member districts, has developed a wide array of cost-effective and high-quality programs and services to meet the educational needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford.

Services Offered By CRECWe Offer

English Language Acquisition for Adults

Adult ELL classes provide intermediate and advanced classroom instruction for participants seeking to develop English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and oral communication.

General Educational Development

The GED diploma is an excellent way for adults 17 and older to find their way to better paying jobs and higher education. This service provides classroom instruction and individualized tutoring sessions, equivalent to high school education, preparing students for the GED exam. The GED exam certifies that an individual has developed high school-level academic skills. Most employers and colleges require those without proof of a high school diploma to obtain their GED prior to employment or enrollment in college.

Integrated Education and Training

IBEST is a model that concurrently provides basic literacy education and occupational skills training to ABE/GED/ESL students. This integrated approach prepares students for various careers in industries where support skills are in demand or part of expected job requirements.
