CREC Celebrates 50 Years with Special Event

Summary:

CREC is marking 50 years of excellence in education with a kickoff celebration on January 26 at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.

CREC began as a small, grassroots project in 1966 and has grown tremendously over the past 50 years, providing extensive opportunities for collaboration and cost savings to its member districts. Today, CREC operates more than 120 programs and services, 18 award-winning magnet schools, and a collection of the best programs and schools for students with special needs in the country. CREC has a reputation for developing innovative, high-quality programs and services, and the organization is known for demanding and delivering positive results for all children and families in the Greater Hartford area.

At its anniversary celebration, CREC will fill a time capsule with items that represent different parts of the agency and its history. The capsule, built by students at the CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering in Windsor, will be displayed in the lobby of CREC’s central offices on Charter Oak Avenue in Hartford throughout 2016.

In addition of a number of invited guests, Connecticut Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman will attend the event present a proclamation to CREC on behalf of the governor’s office.

Members of the media are welcome to attend CREC’s 50th anniversary celebration. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the formal program is set to begin at 8:15 a.m.
