Fraternity and Sorority Hold Workshops at CREC Two Rivers Magnet High School

(Hartford, CT) CREC Two Rivers Magnet High School students were recently visited by members of the Theta Alpha Sigma Hartford Alumnae Chapter of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and the Beta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The fraternity and sorority members held gender-specific workshops with students. The sorority focused on female perspectives and topics, including building positive female relationships, developing self-esteem, and ways of presenting oneself positively. The fraternity focused on male perspectives and talked to students about appropriate interactions with females, bullying and sexual harassment, dreams and aspirations, and business attire.

The workshops allowed the fraternity and sorority members to share their knowledge, experiences, and advice with CREC students, including helping students learn more about college.

“It was really cool to have guys here who come from where we come from and to see them be successful,” said one CREC Two Rivers Magnet High School freshman. “We know that we can look up to them.”

School Principal Robert McCain agreed that the workshops were worthwhile.

“I thought this was an awesome event,” he said. “It was amazing how they kept the students engaged the whole day. For some of these students, it truly was life changing.”
