CREC Metropolitan Learning Center Students Raise Money for Susan G. Komen

(Bloomfield, CT) Student-athletes at the CREC Metropolitan Learning Center for Global and International Studies in Bloomfield have been busy.

In addition to attending their practices and competing in their games, the students are raising awareness of breast cancer and collecting money for Susan G. Komen.

Throughout October, the school’s sports teams participated in several activities meant to raise awareness for the disease. The girls soccer team at the CREC Metropolitan Learning Center for Global and International Studies led the effort.

During morning announcements each school day, facts about breast cancer were shared with the student body, and the CREC Athletic Program sponsored Pink Day, a day when students could purchase pink bracelets and dress in pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness.

A Pink Marathon, which involved all seven of the school’s sports teams, was also held. Each team was responsible for walking 26 miles, and they raised money for the November 1 event through sponsor donations.

The school’s efforts have raised at least $2,503 for Susan G. Komen.

“Service is an essential part of what we believe in at the CREC Metropolitan Learning Center,” said Principal Sasha Douglas. “I am proud of the work that our student athletes did to support the fight to end breast cancer.”
