The Differentiated Instruction Initiative provides professional development training, technical assistance, and coaching to educators who are interested in differentiating instruction in their classrooms and schools. The initial comprehesive overview informs teachers of the components of differentiation and provides ideas they can implement immediately in their classrooms to help them to begin to recognize and plan for students according to their needs. Additional workshops and support are tailored to assist teachers put differentiation into practice. Coaching provides strategies that will enable teachers to contend with the challenge of maximizing achievement for all students.
Strategic Intervention
This program provides educators with instruction in specific learning strategies and content enhancement routines to meet the diverse needs of students in middle and high schools. The content is developed at the Center for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas and is based on research-based practices. Strands of this program include reading, writing, and social skill strategies as well as planning and teaching routines to ensure access to the general education curriculum. Participants in this program enroll in specific workshops that relate to their areas of interest and student need. Follow up technical assistance at school settings may also be provide to ensure application of the program in the classroom.
Instructional Coaching: This program will teach you how to coach educators using methods that will lead to instructional improvements.Presented by Dr. Jim Knight, from the University of Kansas, with technical assistance from CREC SSST members, participants will learn new methods to accelerate and enable instructional improvements and student achievement.
