About River Street Autism Program - Birken Campus
Located in Bloomfield, Connecticut, the River Street Autism Program provides intensive year round school-based behavioral intervention to children with autism spectrum disorders 3-15 years of age. Classrooms provide services to PRESCHOOL (3-5 years) and TRANSITION (6-15 years) students. The intensive program is highly individualized and can be crafted to meet the requirements of the IEP with respect to length of day (up to 8 hours) and length of school year (up to 240 days).
Intervention is provided through one-to-one instruction, based in principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). All staff receive training and daily oversight from supervisors who are certified through Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®) and who are thoroughly trained in behavioral intervention for children with autism. The curriculum follows a developmental progression using discrete trail and incidental teaching strategies, with a strong emphasis on the generalization of skills to group instruction in natural environments. Our integrated preschool, the Early Learning Center, provides opportunities for socialization and natural context training with typical peer role models for our younger students. The development of speech, language and social skills are primary components of our program, and a Speech, Language and Communication department that is staffed by personnel who are trained in principles of ABA and certified by the BACB.
