CREC Arts Academy Receives Arts School Network Award
(Hartford, CT) On June 16, 2014, the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts received the Outstanding Arts School Award from the Arts Schools Network (ASN), the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools. This award is presented to a single school each year for their outstanding record of overall excellence in the categories of faculty and student achievement, community recognition and involvement, arts and academics integration, curriculum innovations, continuing growth and development, and state and national recognition.
“Our mission has always been to bring together professional artists with outstanding young people who are willing and able to be their best,” said Kim Stroud, director of the arts at the CREC Arts Academy. “This recognition is most gratifying knowing that we are on the right track of continuously fulfilling this mission.”
CREC’s Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts is an interdistrict magnet high school that offers both full-day and half-day programs for students throughout the state. For more than 25 years, the Academy has focused on developing the fullest academic and artistic potential in all students, encouraging them to be creative, engaged citizens, and preparing them to pursue vocations in the arts.
“As a school that dedicates itself to the notion of ensemble, we are truly honored and proud to be named the Outstanding Arts School for 2014-15,” said Principal, Jeff Ostroff. “We hope to continue to show our families, from the 60 towns around the Greater Hartford area, that the best is yet to come. We are honored to be recognized for our efforts.”
The Arts Schools Network is a non-profit association founded in 1981, dedicated to providing leaders in arts schools with quality resources, support, and networking opportunities. The Outstanding Arts School Award will be presented to the CREC Arts Academy in October, during the annual Arts Schools Network Conference, this year in Denver, Colorado. As an award winner, the school will receive complimentary registration for the conference and will be recognized and presented with a bronze medallion at the Conference Awards Luncheon on Friday, October 24.
