The Mark Mullooly Memorial Fund

The Mullooly family happily dedicates this fund to honor the life and legacy of a beloved son, brother, and uncle - Mark Mullooly (1968-2022). We considered him our angel on earth, full of emotion, soul, curiosity, and personality. He was a very special man in our lives.

Mark was born with autism, and his educational journey began at the age of six when he began at Day Treatment Services (DTS), which was a member program of the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC). At that time, there were very few resources and programs for children with autism. Throughout Mark’s childhood John (1936-2012) and Lorraine Mullooly, his adoring parents, worked tirelessly for many years to secure services and source funding for DTS. This work included interviews with local newspapers, several trips to the Connecticut State Capitol, and extensive community outreach to raise awareness for safe and educational day programs for children with autism. Mark successfully continued with DTS and CREC programs until he turned 21.

Mark made many strides during his time at DTS due to the impactful programs championed by John and Lorraine, who worked closely with Tom Parvenski, former Director of DTS, through which the River Street School was founded. The impact of Tom’s leadership is evident today, with the ongoing success of the River Street School’s many programs for children and young adults in Connecticut, which is now led and championed by Patrick Heick.

Thousands of students over the past fifty years have benefited from the services provided by CREC and the River Street School. Mark’s family created the Mark Mullooly Memorial Fund to benefit the staff and students involved in this very special program.

Your donation will help children, such as Mark, learn valuable social, academic, and vocational skills that will help them be more productive, independent, and engaged community members.

Special thank you to Patrick Heick, Director of River Street Schools and Programs, and Darlene Wolliston, CREC Foundation Officer, for their help and support in creating this fund.

With joy and celebration, we dedicate this fund to our beloved Mark, with special recognition to his father, John, and his brother Jay (Happy 60th, Dad, we love you!). On behalf of our family, we thank you so much for your donation.
